Our Education
The Building Trades Educational Benefit Fund boasts providing a top-notch education for all of our electricians. We stress the importance of quality training and development for all of our contractors; and in order to meet our high standard, BIECA works alongside the Building Trades Educational Benefit Fund. All of our teachers are New York City Board of Education Certified in Electrical Installation and Practice. The foundation of our highly regarded training program includes various forms of training and skill certifications, specifically through on-site training and job-related classroom lectures. On-site training offers a realistic view of future jobs with a “hands-on” learning approach, while job-related classroom instruction covers the theory and understanding behind the intricate techniques of the trade. The program’s discussions hone in on detail-oriented tasks while focusing on the safety precaution aspect. BIECA is proud to announce an updated training facility that has undergone a 48 million dollar renovation, featuring shops that have been equipped with state-of-the-art technology. This technology prepares our employees for the future and enhances their learning experiences. Maintaining a safe and secure environment to foster education is our top priority. Ultimately this is reflected onto our valued clients through the dedication of our contractors and their incredible standard and execution of work. Each year, an Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) specialist is invited to our training facility to review and update our OSHA regulations and practices.
In regards to our thorough training programs, every apprentice is trained for five years following all NYS appointed guidelines and requirements. While enrolled in our extensive program, every apprentice works full business day hours for our contractors under the direct supervision of a journeyman. This on-site training is meticulously logged and monitored by the Education Fund to ensure each apprentice masters every phase of electrical work. Every apprentice is required throughout the course to complete between 1640-2000 hours of on-job training each year in order to advance towards graduation. Once the apprenticeship is successfully completed, our contractors may apply for graduation. The Building Trades Educational Benefit Fund additionally offers advanced training courses for apprentices, to expand their skill-set post graduation. Some courses offered through this advanced program include:
·
Fire Alarm Systems and Grounding Techniques
